Are you in financial difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic?

Many people have been put in a difficult financial situation by the coronavirus pandemic. If you are one of them, the Housing Bank can help you.

Your municipality granted you the start-up loan. It is therefore the municipality and/or the loan servicer, such as Lindorff, that should help you with payment holidays and switching to interest-only repayments. The municipal authorities can also help you with general financial advice.

The interest rates on loans from the Housing Bank are calculated from market interest rates using a model specified by Norwegian regulations:

  • Fixed rates are changed on the 1st day of each month.
  • Variable rates are changed on the 1st day of every second month
(January, March, May, July, September, November).

The regulations that govern loans from the Housing Bank do not allow it to make changes to interest rates at any other times.

If you have a loan from the Housing Bank and are in financial difficulties because of the coronavirus pandemic, you can switch to interest-only repayments for up to 6 months. In that case you stop making capital repayments, but you carry on paying interest.
If you are struggling with your loan repayments, please contact the Housing Bank by writing to post@husbanken.no or calling 22 96 16 00. We are receiving a lot of enquiries at the moment, so it may take a bit longer than usual for us to reply.

Housing allowance is a government grant that is calculated monthly based on your income and housing expenses.

Being laid off doesn’t automatically entitle you to housing allowance. Check whether you’re entitled to receive housing allowance here.
If you live in shared housing, or if you or anyone else in your household is a student/pupil, you must submit a paper application.

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, many municipalities and NAV offices are closed to the general public, and telephone lines are often very busy.

Many municipalities use the system “eDialog”, which allows you to send secure digital messages. Don’t send sensitive personal details by e-mail.
